Proposed Camping Grounds
A proposal for a safe and legal place to camp and prospect for gold on an active gold mine.
The Golden Spear Mine is a small-scale gold mining operation in the legendary Palmer River region of North Queensland, Australia.
With your support to get through the red tape, we propose to open our 25 hectare mining lease, including 1.5 kms of alluvial creek and camping facilities, for prospecting/fossicking hobbyists and tourists to have a safe and legal place to camp and detect/pan for gold on an active gold mine lease.
Gold miners in the Palmer River goldfields have a big problem with prospectors and tourists going onto leases without permission. This is trespassing ("poaching", "stealing"), which is illegal and may get you fined for trespassing, including losing your equipment, or even getting shot! This has happened in the past...
We want to help the miners as well as the prospectors and tourists. Everyone wants to see the old Maytown ruins and the old Palmer River mines, and to do some prospecting, but are unsure where they can and can't go.
By using our proposed campgrounds as a base camp, we can advise you where you can go (and can't) to prospect safely.
Some miners will let you prospect on their lease with permission, which we will organise for you, to help keep you, your family and friends, safe and legal.
This will help reduce trespassing and pouching on the goldfields, giving the lease holders/miners peace of mind, and the prospectors and tourists a safe place to explore.
We don't want the Palmer River goldfields to be shut down like they’re doing to the goldfields down south.

Hi everyone, I know everyone is waiting to hear about camping on Golden Spear Mine (in the future when this Covid 19 has gone) so this is the update,
Well the answer from the Land Courts is.......NO :N: !! :mad: ! Because being a working mine I don’t fall under the town planning act for them to make the rules and conditions, it is up to the mine’s department and Enviromental department to control and make the rules and conditions which they apparently don’t have time to work out and enforce since the government departments are short on staff and inspectors to cover QLD!! 2 years fighting to help the general public and they shut the doors for a new small business .
Anyway I can still have family and friends stay and camp and fossick!! So all my new friends out there, if you are up this way or coming to FNQ let me know and I will save you a camp site friend.

Location
Golden Spear Mine is located only 3 hours north from Cairns, 5.5Kms north of the Palmer River road house, A great place to have a base camp, with Maytown only 90Km’s away and Cooktown only 100Km’s With all weather access for 2wd or 4x4 and your camper or caravan. There are many of camping areas along Spear Creek with easy access.

Prospecting/Fossicking
A family enjoying a beautiful day crevicing and panning on Spear Creek for Alluvial Gold in a quite and peaceful setting. There is over 1.5 Km’s of Alluvial Gold creek to discover and find your patch to crevice, pan, sluice or high-bank.
Also you can detect on our 60+ acres of gully’s and flats, in a known Gold area.
Camping
Golden Spear Mine has some beautiful camping areas over looking Spear Creek and on the hill with horizon to horizon views of the crystal clear night sky’s.
With only 2.5 Km’s of gravel road off the Mulligan Hwy we have all weather access, for all vehicles, caravans, campers.
New shower/toilet amenities will be built shortly.
